The real monthly math
What $149/month actually buys you
Most alternatives cost about the same or more. Here's the difference.
| Option | Monthly cost | The catch |
|---|---|---|
| DIY builder (Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy) | $17-159/mo | You still design, write, and maintain it yourself. |
| Rented website services | $75-125/mo | You never own it outright. Stop paying, it disappears. |
| Into the Flavor Monthly Retainer | $149/mo | Managed, backed up, monitored by us, and yours to keep. |
Pricing Questions, Answered
Here's what Ontario business owners usually ask us before getting started.
What's not included in the $499?
The $499 covers a complete, custom-built website with the pages listed above, mobile-first design, a working contact form, basic SEO, and getting it live on your domain. It doesn't include things like copywriting from scratch if you want us to interview you and write all the content for you (we'll help you polish what you give us), stock photography licensing beyond a handful of free images, e-commerce or online payment functionality, or custom features like booking systems and member logins. If your project needs any of that, we'll quote it separately before we start so there are no surprises.
Do I own the website?
Yes, 100%. Once your final invoice is paid, the website, the code, and your domain (if we registered it for you) are yours. There's no lock-in - if you ever want to move hosting providers or hand the site to another developer, we'll hand over everything you need. The only ongoing cost is hosting itself, which is inexpensive on the platform we use and can be billed directly to you.
What happens after the 30 days of free support?
During the first 30 days after launch, we fix any bugs and make small tweaks at no charge. After that window, your site keeps working exactly as built - it doesn't stop or get taken down. If you want us to keep making updates, fixing things, or handling hosting and security going forward, that's what the Monthly Retainer is for. It's entirely optional; plenty of clients launch and only come back to us occasionally for one-off changes, which we're happy to quote as needed.
Can I cancel the monthly retainer any time?
Yes. The retainer is month-to-month with no long-term contract and no cancellation fee. Just let us know before your next billing date and we'll wrap things up cleanly. We'd rather earn your business every month than lock you into something that isn't working for you.
How long does it take to build my site?
Most Basic Website projects take about 2-3 weeks from kickoff to launch, depending on how quickly we get your content, photos, and feedback on drafts. Simple sites can move faster; sites with more custom pages or a lot of back-and-forth on revisions can take a bit longer. We will give you a specific timeline once we understand your project on our intro call.
What if I need more than 3 updates a month?
No problem - we simply bill any additional updates beyond the included 3 at a fair hourly rate, which we'll always confirm with you before doing the work. Most of our retainer clients stay within the 3-update allowance for typical things like swapping photos, updating hours, or adding a blog post, but if you're running a promotion or making bigger changes, just tell us and we'll scope it out.
Do you handle my domain and hosting?
We can set up hosting for you on Cloudflare Pages as part of both packages, which is fast, reliable, and inexpensive. If you already own a domain, we'll connect it for you; if you need to register a new one, we can guide you through that too. You keep full ownership and control of your domain at all times - we just help you point it in the right direction.
How is this different from a $20/month website builder or subscription plan?
With a DIY builder or a subscription-based website service, you're renting: stop paying and the site disappears, and you're usually the one designing and maintaining it yourself. With Into the Flavor, the $499 build is yours outright the moment it's paid, whether or not you ever sign up for the retainer afterward. The $149/month plan isn't rent, it's us managing, backing up, and improving a site you already own.
